Tourist work in the Giessener Lahntäler continues

It is sealed – the work of the Tourist Working Group Giessener Lahntäler will continue for at least another five years.

About two years ago, the Tourist Working Group Giessener Lahntäler officially started its work. The start-up phase has so far been subsidized with LEADER funds from the pots of the European Union and the state of Hesse and has made possible, among other things, the hiring of the project officer, Anna Erb. The position was initially limited to 1.5 years and expired in September 2022.

At the beginning of the project, the municipalities had agreed to continue regular operations after the funding period with a half-time position. In the course of the project, however, it became clear that a reduction in working hours would mean that only the bare essentials could be done. Thus, the mayors quickly agreed among themselves in the spring that the successful cooperation of the municipalities should be continued as before.

“We’d rather do it right, or not do it at all,” Reiskirchen Mayor Dietmar Kromm commented on the upcoming decision in the municipality’s main and finance committee in September. “The project has just picked up speed. If we put on the brakes now, we’ll lose momentum and not get anywhere.” All the mayors were very satisfied with Erb’s work so far.

For a long time, it was uncertain whether the local parliaments of all six municipalities would also see it that way. Now it is clear: All the municipalities involved voted for a continuation for at least five more years with a full-time position. “Ms. Erb has done a fantastic job as project officer over the past two years,” notes Peter Gefeller, mayor of the town of Staufenberg, where the job will be based from January 2023. The position has been included in the Staufenberg budget as a permanent full-time position. Thus, the work of the Tourist Working Group can now continue at full speed.

The amended North District Agreement was ceremoniously signed on Friday, November 11, 2022 in Lollar Town Hall.
