The surroundings

The leisure region Giessener Lahntäler is a part of the district of Giessen. In just a few minutes by train or bus you can reach the city of Giessen, which invites you for extensive shopping, a visit to the municipal theater or the Mathematikum. If you just can’t get enough of castles and palaces, parks and historic walls, the region offers you a whole wealth of choices within just a few kilometers. In Giessen, for example, you will find the old and the new castle, a botanical garden, the Badenburg and the Schiffenberg monastery. In the Gleiberger Land, which adjoins the Giessener Lahntäler to the east, you will find the castles of Gleiberg and Vetzberg as well as the Gail’schen Park. In the Westlicher Vogelsberg region, directly to the south, you will find Laubach Castle with its castle park, Hungen Castle as well as Arnsburg Monastery and the castle of the Princes of Solms-Hohensolms-Lich in Lich. Even more historical traces can be found on the Dünsberg (Gleiberger Land), where signs of a Celtic settlement can be found, or the Limes fortification in Pohlheim, where a reconstructed watchtower is located today.

The Giessener Lahntäler are also part of the destination ‘das Lahntal‘.
