New cultural format: Kultur im Fluss 2022

the first edition of the culture weeks in the Giessener Lahntäler

From 10.06.-24.07.2022, the newly founded cultural network of the Giessener Lahntäler presents its joint event “Culture in the River” for the first time. Numerous organizers and cultural venues from the region participated and offer for 6 weeks a diverse program of over 30 individual events.

The Giessener Lahntäler are a region where artists have always found their inspiration. Poet Rainer Maria Rilke, art sculptor W.H. Arnold, painter Carl Engel, the writers Peter Kurzeck and Tomas Hettche or also the songwriter and author Fredrik Vahle are to be mentioned here. Even today, the valleys of the Lahn, Lumda, Wieseck and Salzböde offer a lively cultural landscape. The cultural network founded in March of this year has now set itself the task of proving this and presenting it to a more ready public.

“With us, you will find especially many smaller venues that allow you to have a personal and individual experience with the artists. With our first edition of Kultur im Fluss, we want to take our heritage to the outside world and put it on a new platform,” says Anna Erb, project officer for the Giessener Lahntäler Tourist Working Group, on whose initiative the cultural network was founded. The joint event concept for Allendorf, Buseck, Lollar, Rabenau, Reiskirchen and Staufenberg was fine-tuned in joint workshops.

Events in a very special atmosphere are waiting to be discovered by a wider public. “We regularly and always have great, quality events that only a small circle knows about. We would like to change that,” says Erb. Events worth discovering include those in Buseck Castle Park, at Staufenberg Castle, in a barn of a former farm estate that has been converted with great attention to detail, a castle garden, an old school hall, a listed barn or a new building with a surprising retro living room flair inside.

The program offers events for young and old, with a variety of regional and national artists of all kinds. Concerts of various directions, theater and circus theater, readings and exhibitions can be found on the program schedule. Everyone can find something for themselves here.

Kultur im Fluss kicks off this year and is expected to become an annual event highlight in the calendars of culture enthusiasts, attracting visitors from neighboring counties, among others. “And for those who can’t make it home from all the cultural events, our hosts will be happy to offer overnight accommodation.” Thus, the development of a joint event highlight for the region also represents another milestone for tourism development in the rural area of the Giessener Lahntäler, which will be subsidized with LEADER funding until the end of September.
